Question

What is Electric Field due to Charged Conducting Sphere?

Answer

Electric Field due to Charged Conducting Sphere - If a charge on a conducting sphere of radius R is Q and σ is surface charge density as shown in the figure below, then electric field in different situations are (i) Outside the sphere - If point p lies outside the sphere, Eout = 1/4πε0×Q/r2 = σR2/ε,sub>0 r2 [∵ Q = σ × A] (ii) At the surface of sphere - At surface, r = R So, Es = 1/4πε0 × Q/R2 = σ/ε0 (iii) Inside the sphere - Inside the conducting change sphere, electric field is zero. Ein = 0
