The Properties of Nitric Acid –
(i) Nitric acid is a colourless, fuming, and highly corrosive liquid (freezing point −42°C, boiling point 83°C).
(ii) It is extremely corrosive in nature.
(iii) In aqueous solution, nitric acid behaves as strong acid giving H3O+ and NO3–.
