Corey-House-Posner-Whitesides reaction is a carbon-carbon bond forming reaction used in organic chemistry for the synthesis of alkenes from alkyl halides. The reaction involves the reaction of an alkyl halide with a lithium dialkylcuprate reagent in the presence of a base to form a new carbon-carbon bond.
The general equation for the Corey-House synthesis is:
R-X + LiR2Cu (R = alkyl group) + base → R-R + LiX + CuI
where X represents a halogen atom (usually chlorine or bromine).
