Question
What is Nucleophilic Substitution Reactions in Aryl Halogen Compounds?
Answer
Aryl halogen compounds are less reactive towards nucleophilic substitution reactions due to the following reasons: (i) Substitution by Hydroxyl Group (ii) Substitution by Cyano Group (iii) Phenyl cation formed as a result of self ionisation will not be stabilized by resonance. (iv) In aryl halide, C-atom holding halogen atom is sp2 hybridized. (v) The C-X bond in aryl halides have double bond character due to conjugation between lone pair of halogen and benzene ring.Subscribe to our youtube channel!
