Characteristic of Gram negative bacteria Thickness of cell wall is 75-120Ǻ.
Cell wall is wavy and in contact with cell membrane only at a few places. Cell wall is two-layered, outer wall is of lipopolysaccharide and interwall of peptidoglycan with 20-30% lipid content and 10-20% murein.
Mesosome less prominent pill, common.
Mostly bacilli, capsulated, flagellation common.
Teichoic acid absent, more resistant to antibiotics.
e.g. E. coli, Rhizobium, Xanthomonas, etc.
