Diseases Caused by Bacteria

Name of Disease Causative agent Mode of transmission Symptoms/signs of disease
Cholere Vibrio Cholerae Contaminated food and water. After incubation period of 2-3 days, stomach ache, caused, vomiting, rice water diarrhea. It requires use or ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) along with drugs.
Typhoid Salmonedlla typhi Contaminated food and water. Fever, body aches diarrhoea characterized by green stools, in severe case, disease is diagnosed by Widal test.
Tuberculosis Mycobacterium tuberculie Contaminated air and inhaled water droplets. Mild fever, headache, chest pains, blood stained sputum in severe case with damage to lungs.
Diphtheria Comybacterium diphtheriae Contaminated water Sore throat, tonsil with grey membrane, hoarse ness, difficulty in the breathing. Blood tinged nasal discharge from nostrils.
Pertussis (Whooping cough) Bordetella pertussis Coughing discharge inhalation. After incubation period of 10-16 days, continuous coughing leading to reddening of face, vomiting, convulsions and pneumonia.
Tetanus (Lock Jaw ease) Clostridium tetani Contamination of cut or wound with soil containing cow dung. Restlessness, headache, difficulty in swallow-dising, and chewing with locking of jaw. Treatment should be with intravenous intake of ATS (Anti-tetanus Serum)
Diarrhoeal diseases E. Coli, Shigellα dysenteries, salmonella, giardia intestanlies. Contaminated food and water. Stomach ache, diarrhoea leading to body dehydration. Hence ORS to be used as treatment along with drugs.
