Frankland Reaction…
The Frankland reaction is a carbon-carbon bond forming reaction that is similar to the Wurtz reaction, but it uses organometallic compounds instead of metallic sodium as the reducing agent. The reaction involves the coupling of two alkyl halides or aryl halides in the presence of an organometallic compound, usually an alkyl or aryl zinc halide or an alkyl, to form a new carbon-carbon bond.
The general equation for the Frankland reaction is:
2R-X + R’-ZnX → R-R’ + ZnX2
where R and R’ represent alkyl or aryl groups and X represents a halogen atom.
