Limitation of Williamson’s Synthesis in Ethers, for the preparation of unsymmetrical ethers, only primary halides are preferred because they react faster and undergoes Sn2 mechanism.
But, it secondary and tertiary alkyl halides are used, they undergo elimination reaction in the presence of sodium alkoxide, a strong base.
