Limitations of Octet Rule – There are mainly three limitations of the octet rule:
(i) The octet rule only applies to atoms in their ground state.
(ii) The octet rule does not take into account the number of electrons in an atom.
(iii) The octet rule does not take into account the nature of the chemical bonds between atoms.
