Rules of the Determination of Oxidation Number
Rules of the Determination of Oxidation Number:
(1) Each atom in an element in any of its allotropic form is assigned an Oxidation Number of 0.
(2) Oxidation Number of an atom in its charged monoatomic ion is equal to the charges on the ion.
(3) The Oxidation Number of elements in their compounds or compound ions is obtained using the following rules.
