Steps Naming of Nomenclature of Alkenes…
Steps Naming of Nomenclature of Alkenes:(i) Identify the longest continuous chain of carbon atoms that contains the double bond. This chain is the parent chain of the alkene.
(ii) Number the carbon atoms in the parent chain starting from the end that is closest to the double bond. The first carbon of the double bond is assigned the lowest possible number.
(iii) If there are multiple substituent groups, they are listed in alphabetical order, ignoring any numerical prefixes.
(iv) If there are multiple double bonds or functional groups in the molecule, the prefixes “di-“, “tri-“, “tetra-“, etc. are used to indicate the number of each group.
(v) If there are substituent groups attached to the parent chain, they are named using prefixes such as “methyl-“, “ethyl-“, “propyl-“, etc. The position of each substituent is indicated by a numerical prefix that corresponds to the number of the carbon to which it is attached.
