Ether

According to Common System, Ether are named according to Alkyl groups attached to the Oxygen atom. This name of the two Alkyl or Aryl groups linked to Oxygen atom are written alphabetically followed by the word Ether.

Ether can be named in two ways. (1) Common System (2) IUPAC System

Ether is an imaginary fluid that is supposed to be present in all space.

The important Physical Properties of Ether are: (1) Lower members are gases and higher members are low boiling liquid with a pleasant smell. (2) The C-O-C bond angle in Ether is about 11° and, therefore, Ether have a net dipole moment. (3) Ether have law polarity and as a result do not show any association by intermolecular Hydrogen bonding, therefor Ether have low boiling point.
