Thermocouple is a device used for measurement of temperatures. It consists of two metallic junctions of dissimilar metals. It is based on the fact that when the two junctions are placed at different temperatures, an emf develops across these, whose magnitude depends on the temperature difference between the junctions. A measurement of the emf enables on to calculate the desired temperature.
